Offsite Building Construction.

BWF based in Truro has achieved an off site construction structure that meets building regulations. A project at the award winning 5* Landal Gwel an Mor ( recently winner of Visit England Best Holiday Park – Gold ) has required 10 luxury micro lodges with a 3.5 x 8.5 footprint to be constructed off site to turnkey finish and transported to site, to be situated around the fishing lake. The first of these lodges has now been delivered with the balance due on site over the next few weeks ready for the peak summer season.

There is now a shift towards prefabrication through political pressure to construct affordable quality homes and by major problems inherent within the construction industry. BWF Offsite construction offers clients a chance of achieving consistently high standards compared to traditional site-based construction. Benefits include predictability, quality assurance, faster construction times, less waste, less noise and disruption to neighbours, less – even zero – defects and lower site accident rates and improved health and safety. These advantages are seen clearly in urban locations where the increasing demand for housing and the scarcity of green field sites forces developers to build on ever smaller plots of land within existing residential developments.

Whatever is constructed in the factory has to be transported to the construction site and is dependent upon the limitations of vehicles and available traffic routes. Modular buildings are limited to the sizes that can be lifted and transported safely to site by lorry, but BWF can create bespoke packages that meet the needs of the end user and most importantly offer this at a level that meets building regulations. These offsite packages can be delivered as modular buildings , or volumetric , timber frame or SIPS construction.

Growing demand, coupled with poor build quality and a reducing skills base, has created a dilemma that will not be resolved without a “step change” in productivity and quality of build. BWF Offsite techniques offer a potential solution for both the county and also nationwide.
